Summary of project scope

The project is for the assessment of Transnet Freight Rails’ infrastructure assets on four main lines, namely: 

Kaapmuiden to Barberton
Empangeni to Durban
Potchefstroom to Kimberley
Sishen to Halfweg

The assets that were assessed include track superstructure and substructure, culverts, bridges, tunnels, network-related buildings, level crossings, OHTE, substations, colour light signalling etc.

Elwatini’s responsibility involved the culvert, level crossing and signage assessments. A sample of culverts and level crossing were inspected in each main line and the condition
